Kenya - Institute of Youth Ministry engaged in formation of school chaplains

Nairobi, Kenya - June 2022 - The Institute of Youth Ministry, a faculty initiated and run by the Salesians (SDB and FMA) at "Tangaza University College" in Nairobi, in collaboration with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Kenya (KCCB) has embarked on a series of training sessions for Kenyan Catholic schools. The first phase of this project, which started in 2021, will be completed by the end of July 2022. At the moment, priests and religious are being trained and, later, formation is planned for the laity as well. A variety of topics are covered under the program, such as Catholic education, the role of the school chaplain, child protection, and counseling and animation skills. By the end of the first phase, it is estimated that more than 300 chaplains will have been trained and will be in contact with more than half a million young people in primary and secondary schools.
