Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo - May 2022 - The second annual meeting of the Rectors of the Salesian works of the Central Africa Province (AFC) opened on May 18. Fr. Guillermo Basañes, AFC Provincial, presented the three essential points of this important meeting for the province and Salesian communities. He emphasized the cohesion between the Provincial and the Rectors, experienced during his annual canonical visit to the 24 AFC works, and encouraged the participants to increase the existing cohesion. The formative nature of the session necessitated the presence of Fr. Camiel Swertvagher, former AFC Provincial, currently one of the rectors of the Salesian Formation Center Africa-Madagascar (SAFCAM) in Nairobi, Kenya. Fr. Swertvagher was warmly welcomed by the participants, who appreciated his helpfulness, his sense of well-executed service for the advancement of the common mission, and his sign of God's love for poor and abandoned youth. Referring to Article 119 of the Constitutions, Fr. Basañes said that ongoing formation constitutes a moment of vocational growth in the Salesian mission. Finally, he concluded by saying that this meeting of the Rectors is in line with the perspectives of the 21st Provincial Chapter scheduled for later this year.
