Vatican – Fr. Nirmol Vincent Gomes, SDB, nominated Bishop of the Diocese of Krishnagar

(ANS - Vatican City) - The Holy See Press Office announced today that the Holy Father Pope Francis has nominated Fr. Nirmol Vincent Gomes, SDB, as Bishop of the Diocese of Krishnagar, India, who is currently the Vicar of the Novitiate in Dhajea, Darjeeling, belonging to the Province of Calcutta - India (INC).

Nirmol Vincent Gomes, SDB, was born on 8th February 1959 in Ranaghat, India. After attending the Salesian aspirantate, he entered the novitiate in Sunnyside, Shillong, where he made his First Profession on 24th May 1979. He studied philosophy in Sonada, Darjeeling, and theology at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome, where he obtained a Doctorate in Educational Sciences. He made his Perpetual Profession in the Salesian Society of St John Bosco on 24 May 1985. He was ordained a priest on 22 July 1989 in his hometown.

He has also served as the Dean of Studies (1991-1997) and Rector (2000-2006) of the Salesian Institute in Sonada; Rector (2007-2009) at the “Don Bosco” School in Krishnagar; Vice Rector and (2010-2013) and Rector (2013-2014) of the “Don Bosco” School in Siliguri.

He served as the Provincial of the Salesian province of Calcutta from 2014 to 2020.

At the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome he obtained a Licentiate in Pedagogy (1988-1991) and a Doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences (1997-2000).
