Equatorial Guinea – Rector Major’s presence renews Salesian Family

28 March 2022

(ANS - Bata) - The animation visit that Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, is conducting to the Salesian presence in Equatorial Guinea proceeds. Yesterday, March 27, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco presided over the Sunday Eucharist with the Salesian Family and the work’s young people.

Great and festive was the participation of the assembly at Mass, presided by the Rector Major and concelebrated by Fr Roland Mintsa, Superior of the Vice-Province "Our Lady of Africa" of Equatorial Tropical Africa (ATE), and former pastor of the Bata Salesian church.

Since the opening of the Mass, Fr Á.F. Artime expressed his happiness to be in Equatorial Guinea, in a lively and vibrant community, rich in the greatest Salesian treasure: young people. Then, he explained the meaning of his visit, with these words: "The African reality is very present in my heart and I want to be close to my confreres, to the youth and to the Salesian Family who carry on Don Bosco's charism in this beautiful African land, amid many sacrifices and facing many challenges and difficulties."

For this reason, even after the celebration, the Rector Major dedicated his time to chat with children, teens, and young people, joking with them and encouraging them like a new Don Bosco, and he welcomed the many requests for photos.

The day then continued with a cordial meeting with the bishop of the diocese of Bata, Msgr. Juan Matogo Oyana, during which the two had a full dialogue on the civil, ecclesial, and Salesian reality of the place.

Today, Monday, March 28, the Rector Major greeted the students of the large Salesian school in Bata and visited the facilities of the work. Then, he began his transfer to the island of Malabo, the capital of the country, the third and final stop of his trip to Equatorial Guinea.
