Cameroon – Fr Á.F. Artime to Salesians: an Oratorian heart to be happy

16 March 2022

(ANS - Yaoundé) - On his second day since arriving in Cameroon, yesterday March 15, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, met with several communities of Sisters of the Salesian Family and, subsequently, with Salesian Theology students. On each occasion, he brought the closeness and paternal affection of the "Don Bosco of today".

Fr Á.F. Artime met with the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) of the communities of Bafia and Mimboman, and the Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, (the eighth group of the Salesian Family, founded by the Salesian Blessed Fr Luigi Variara) of the community of Ekié.

During the talks with the Rector Major, the sisters shared in a family atmosphere their joy for his presence among them, their gratitude for his attention to the SF groups, but also the challenges they face in the different contexts of their respective works.

Afterward, Fr Á.F. Artime continued his appointments meeting aspirants, animators, collaborators, family members, and young Salesians of the community of the Theological Studentate "St. Augustine" of Nkol'afeme, in Yaoundé.

The welcome ceremony was followed by a photo session, which served as a preview of the meeting with the Salesians of the Theologate. The Tenth Successor of Don Bosco did not fail to emphasize his satisfaction with the enthusiasm and liveliness shown by his confreres towards him, in which he saw a reason for hope for the future of the Congregation.

He also said he appreciated the richness of the cultural diversity of the community, a reflection of the richness of the Salesian charism, to the benefit of the Congregation and the Church.

The Tenth Successor of Don Bosco also invited to preserve Don Bosco's Oratorian heart, living Salesian life with happiness, because - he warned - a Salesian who is not happy with his vocation could slip into the pursuit of comfort and an easy life.

Finally, he confided to the young Salesians in formation his greatest dream: to always have confreres who are happy with their vocation, who dedicate themselves totally to the cause of the salvation of young people.

At the end of the meeting, community Vespers were recited and then the Rector Major offered the Salesian "good night", in which he insisted on the importance of shared mission with the laity, observing that it is not a theme that can remain foreign to Salesian Africa: on the contrary, he affirmed that it can help to open the doors of Salesian houses to young people more and make the Sons of Don Bosco more attentive to the needs of the people they meet in their activities.
