Prior to this visit, Fr. Ángel will participate in the Spiritual Exercises of the Provincial Councils of Inter-America from 4 to 10 February. On his arrival in Ecuador, he was accompanied by Fr. Hugo Orozco, Regional Councillor for Inter-America, and was welcomed by Fr. Francisco Sánchez, Provincial, Monsignor Alfredo Espinoza, Archbishop of Quito, Monsignor Néstor Montesdeoca, Vicar Apostolic of Méndez, and Fr. Esteban Ortiz. On his departure from the airport, the Salesian formandi also gave him a warm welcome.
This will be the second time that Ecuador has the grace of receiving the Don Bosco of our time, who visited Ecuador in 2015. On that occasion, he visited some communities and works in cities such as Quito, Guayaquil, Macas and Cuenca. In the latter, he had the opportunity to participate in the National Meeting of the MJS with thousands of young people.
Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime will participate in various events in the city of Quito, where he will meet with his Salesian confreres, with young people, with lay collaborators and representatives of the Salesian Family. In each of these spaces there will be a conversation with the Rector Major with the aim of receiving his thoughts and reflections, just as Don Bosco did with the young people of Valdocco.
Due to the delicate conditions generated by the pandemic, the activities will have a limited capacity in order to protect the health of those attending. For this reason, the events will be broadcast live on the official digital channels of Salesians Ecuador to allow people to experience these meetings from all the places where there is a Salesian heart.
"He comes among us as Don Bosco to visit us... We meet to give thanks, to motivate and enthuse ourselves for our missionary vocation that the Lord has given us through Don Bosco. Long live the Rector Major and long live Don Bosco", is the message of Fr. Francisco Sanchez, the provincial to motivate everyone to live this event with great joy.
