The event, which will be presided over by the Vicar of the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr Stefano Martoglio, will be attended by Benedetta Rinaldi, a journalist for the RAI networks and Salesian past pupil, and Marco Tarquinio, Director of Avvenire, the daily newspaper of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI). Luciano Ghelfi, also a RAI journalist, will moderate the meeting.
“The pandemic has demonstrated the centrality of communication and correct information,” explained Fr Roberto Colameo, parish priest of the "San Giovanni Bosco" parish basilica in Rome. “In a society lacerated by conflicts, the role of the journalist is also that of mediator and interpreter of reality. Here Catholic information has a very demanding task but one that it must never forget.”
Thus, explaining the meaning of this round table, the Salesian added: “We shall reflect together to give the Don Bosco community useful elements to interpret today's world. These days of meeting and prayer are intended to bear witness to the ever-increasing need for a Church that is 'outward-going', open and listening.”
The event "What is the meaning of Catholic information?" will also serve as a preview of the celebrations planned for the Feast of St. John Bosco on January 31, for which the parish has planned a whole week of preparatory events, with various initiatives and liturgies presided over by various prominent figures, both Salesian and non-Salesian.
