Cuiabá, Brazil - 1894 - On 18 June 1894, the first Salesian missionaries arrived in Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso, under the guidance of the now Bishop Luigi Lasagna. They were five young missionaries who soon began their activity in the parish of “São Gonçalo do Porto”. The same year they founded the Salesian high school of arts and crafts and a year later they bought a farm where the “São Gonçalo” Salesian Boarding School was built. Shortly after, with the arrival of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Salesians began their great work alongside the Bororo.
