Jabłonka, Poland - May 2021 - On May 27, the XX edition of the "Orawa for the Children of Africa" event took place, thanks to the Salesian Missionary Volunteers "Młodzi Światu" (SWM) of Krakow, of the PLS Salesian Province, and in collaboration with the municipalities of Jabłonka and Lipnica Wielka. Although the traditional picnic was not held at the Jabłonka stadium this year, the generosity of the inhabitants of the municipality did not disappoint expectations. The volunteers, accompanied by Salesian priests, went to the 11 parishes of the Orawa Region and, during Masses, offered their testimonies, asking for support for the Salesian Oratory of Kazembe, in Zambia, where Fr Jacek Garus, SDB, works. This place offers children and young people from the poorest families the possibility of a better future, but above all what they need most: the feeling that someone cares about them, care and love. The needs are many: food for several dozen children, sports equipment, plastic materials, payment of electricity and water bills. Even the buildings, now old, are in urgent need of renovation. To meet these needs, a sum of 61,792.83 zlotys was raised, equivalent to 3,848.51 euros.
