In this initial meeting, that lasted for more than two hours, there were seven participants from around the world who were currently in charge or are actively engaged in the innovative use of technology for ministry.
The meeting was convened and chaired by Rev. Fr. Gildasio Mendes, General Councillor for Social Communication.
In his address to the participants, he highlighted the purpose of the meeting which was to continue the reflection on the “Salesian sacrament” of presence, opening up opportunities for a new phase of communication which is aimed at infusing creativity in the use of technology in the field of education and spirituality in the digital age.
Further speaking, he exhorted the team to find innovative ways to create opportunities for poor people to be seen and heard through the Salesian network.
The general discussion revolved around the following three questions.
1. What are the creative and innovative ways in which you are exploiting the digital communication technology in your institution, Province, the region at present?
2. What are your proposals to synergize and streamline the core concerns (Formation, Animation, Information, Production, and Engagement) of Salesian Social Communication and take it to the next level?
3. What are the prospective unexplored areas Salesians need to invest their time, energy, and resources looking far ahead into the future?
There was an interesting sharing from each of the participants on the above questions. It was an eyeopener to everyone that so many things were happening silently across the Salesian world in the field of media.
A larger team of 20 plus members is scheduled to meet on 24th Feb. 2021.
