(ANS - Korostiv) - This year the celebrations for the anniversary of Don Bosco’s birth were very special for Ukraine. On this day, in fact, the Salesians of Ukraine consecrated the new temple dedicated to St. John Bosco.

The consecration of the church was presided over by the Bishop-coadjutor of the Eparchy of Sambir-Drogobych of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, H.E. Grygoriy Komar.

“It is a very significant event not only for the Salesians, but also for all the faithful of our Church,” said Fr Andriy Bodnar, SDB. “This is the first church in Ukraine dedicated to Don Bosco. We, as Salesians, are very happy, because the Saint's pedagogy and his Preventive System for the education of the young are spreading not only in the Catholic Church, but also in society. This is a sign, which shows that our State desires a dignified future for our children and young people,” added Fr Andriy Bodnar.

The new church is located in Korostiv, a small village in the province of Scole (Lviv Region, West Ukraine), next to the "Domenico Savio" Salesian Center (intended for spiritual exercises and for the reception of guests). Many tourist routes pass near the church, heading towards the Carpathian mountains, so people can visit the temple during their climb to the peaks.

For the celebrations of the church's consecration many Salesians, members of the Salesian Family, representatives of the civil authorities and the inhabitants of Korostiv and the adjacent villages, above which the temple stands, gathered.

“Unfortunately, due to the quarantine, we did not have the opportunity to organize something far-reaching, international conferences, which were planned for these celebrations. However, we have prepared a printed booklet on Don Bosco's life and mission. This will help us to spread information about the Founder of our Congregation among the people,” concluded Fr Andriy.
