Fr Ryszard Józwiak, a Salesian missionary, in collaboration with the Projects Office, developed a long-term project, which was accepted and developed thanks to the support of the benefactors of the Krakow Mission Office.
Fr Rémy Nsengiyumva, a Salesian priest of the parish of Rango, observed that, after the epidemic, the community, as well as the whole Rwandan population in general, will have to follow the measures imposed by the government to fight the pandemic.
“This confinement has severely affected the population, which is now facing hunger,” explained Fr Rémy after receiving the donation. “Many cannot leave their homes to get food or go to work. Thus, the Salesian community intervened to deal with this serious problem,” he continued.
Fr Rémy then explained what the circumstances inside the parish of Rango are. “In our parish, we have different categories of people who suffer from this situation,” he said. “We have, in particular, motorcyclists and motorcycle mechanics, who no longer have a job. We also welcome hairdressers and women who work in small businesses. All of them have stopped working and that's why we have to take action to help them,” he concluded.
“In these days we have worked hard in favor of the most needy,” explained the Salesian coadjutor brother Hubert Twagirayezu, Economer of the AGL Vice-Province, in a video published on the Vice-Province's YouTube channel. “Seeing that many people were in serious difficulties due to confinement, we asked people of goodwill to intervene. Thanks to this help, we have been able to help many families. Sharing with those who have nothing is an act of charity,” he added.
