The technical team of the "SolSal" service has increased food support for families. Respecting all standards of preparation and sanitation, it distributes baskets of food and products from the Food Bank and from other benefactors. The Salesian canteen also prepares another 50 meals a day, in addition to those offered by the "Casa Don Bosco" provincial center.
In addition to providing food and other basic goods, the accompaniment of children, young people and families continues. The technical team of "SolSal" in Lisbon restructured all its programs with virtual sessions and daily contacts.
“The risks that this new reality of social isolation entails, both in terms of mental health and interpersonal relationships, are well known. Depression, violence and anxiety are worsening and emerging, which requires careful and thoughtful monitoring,” they explain from Lisbon. About 20 children, young people and adults continue to receive remote psychological support, and about 100 parents and carers receive daily contact.
“The moment is challenging, but history shows us that humanity has already faced many other challenges, which have been overcome,” they add optimistically. “The way we remember these times will depend on the response we will be able to give, especially to those who live more fragile lives, preserving our humanity and maintaining hope in the future,” they conclude.
The Salesian Foundation Family Assistance Service has existed since 2008 and provides support to children, adolescents and young people in situations of particular vulnerability and to their families. Each month this project, in addition to food support, offers important personal and professional development opportunities so that these young people and their families can grow in a favorable environment. In addition to Lisbon, the Family Assistance Service is also present in Estoril, Évora and Funchal.
