Since last week, "Misión Don Bosco" has started distributing the first $60 voucher to dozens of Ecuadorian families living in poverty and extreme poverty in various parts of the country. Thanks to this benefit, which will be granted three times, these families have been supplied with basic necessities in supermarkets close to their places of residence.
In areas where there are no such supply centers, an alliance has been created with neighborhood stores, so that people can buy fresh food at affordable prices and, at the same time, avoid the risk of contracting the coronavirus.
"Today I have food to feed my family for a week, thanks to this voucher that will feed my three children," said one mother of a family. "With this voucher, I will be able to survive with my children because, at the moment, I cannot go out to work," says another beneficiary.
When the project started, the goal was to support around a thousand families; however, there are many people who are unable to bring their daily bread to the table. For this reason, the Salesian initiative has been extended to a total of 1,800 families.
The effective implementation of this great solidarity campaign was possible thanks to the support of Salesians, communities, faithful, NGOs, benefactors of civil society, collaborators and educators of Salesian works, who all brought together and showed their altruistic hearts.
"Our commitment has always been and will continue 'to be with the poorest and monitor their well-being'. Through this campaign, we want to bring together as many people and institutions as possible to help the most needy population to have their own 'daily bread'," say the Salesians from Quito.
