Ethiopia - Salesians helping people in COVID-19 pandemic
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - March 2020 - The COVID-19 pandemic is also affecting the African continent. In Ethiopia, the continent's second most populous country, only 25 cases have been officially confirmed, but there is a lot of fear and panic among people. Many states in the country have already declared a lockdown, even if the capital, Addis Ababa, still remains open, with limited transport and movement of people. The Salesians, who have 14 active centers across the country, are also involved in the supply of food materials and other equipment necessary for the population. The Mekanissa community and the Adwa community, for example, are collaborating with local authorities in the supply of food materials and protective masks: 700 kg of pasta and 4,000 masks have already been distributed by the Salesian communities in the various villages and in the local prison.
