History and Art: Maria Auxiliadora
Dear Confreres - May 2016
(ANS - Rome) – We are still in Bicentenary time! This year is the 200th anniversary of the first official celebration of the feast of Mary Help of Christians, which occurred on 24 May 1816. The previous September Pope Pius VII had officially established the feast. Don Bosco was among the most active propagators of this devotion: "Confide all things to Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament through Mary Help of Christians and you will see what miracles are," he used to say. This year also great celebrations are planned at Valdocco in her honour.
(ANS – Rome) – In 1877 Don Bosco thought about printing a publication that was destined to last over time. "It has been decided to print a Bulletin which will be like a newspaper of the Congregation, because there are many things to be communicated. It will be a regular bulletin, a link between Cooperators and Salesians." Following in the footsteps of the founder, the directors of the Salesian Bulletin around the world participated in a special meeting which concluded in the presence of the Rector Major Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, and the Councillor for social communication, Fr Filiberto Gonzalez.
