For over three years, the Don Bosco Green Alliance has been working hard in the continent, motivating people, raising awareness and gathering synergies and strengths to respond to the appeal of Pope Francis for the care of the earth which is our Common Home, listening to the cry of the earth and of the poor.
The main purpose of this first meeting was to ensure that the salesian presences taking part in the alliance, get to know the regional team (Ecoteam), made up of the two regional coordinators – Fr Silvio Torres, Coordinator for the Southern Cone, and Mariana Cejudo, Coordinator for Interamerica - and other members from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, and Paraguay.
Ecoteam members thus shared the activities the team carries out, both in the reflection and in the animation of proposals for the good of the Common Home, working together with other civil and religious associations committed to creating a healthier environment throughout Creation.
At the same time, there was an opportunity for the participants to get to know each other and interact, so as to share the concrete actions for environmental care already initiated in the various countries. For this purpose, time was set aside to work in groups, according to languages.
The meeting was also attended by Fr Antonio "Beng" Molavin, SDB, the new world Coordinator of Don Bosco Green Alliance. In his speech he encouraged those present to continue seeking the ecological conversion of their communities and to join the initiative of the universal Church through the Laudato Sì Initiative Platform of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
One of the main objectives of the gathering was to motivate the members of the Don Bosco Green Alliance to promote and develop initiatives following the priority areas proposed for this year on a global scale (green campuses, environmental education, youth campaigns, ecological spirituality.
