The races usually have a route of 4 to 10 kilometres through the nearby streets. The participants are divided into categories according to age, from youngest to oldest. The first to reach the finish line are awarded a prize, but more than ever the important thing is not to win but to participate for a charitable cause that unites the Salesian houses in the same objective.
Salesians Cordoba held the 42nd edition of its Popular Race in honour of Mary Help of Christians organised by the Salesians Cordoba Sports Club, on 12 May. It brought together some 300 athletes from different parts of the province, among whom the Montillana Rocío Marqués Córdoba stood out, playing for the Club de Atletismo Califas - Universidad de Córdoba. On 8 May, the little ones were able to enjoy a children's race in the facilities at the Salesian school also organised by the Salesians Córdoba Sports Club.
The largest sports festival took place in Orotava on 19 May, with the celebration of the 46th María Auxiliadora Cross. The event, the longest running in the Archipelago only interrupted during the world pandemic, was attended by some 1,800 runners. Many fans crowded on both sides of the road to encourage all the runners who suffered in the famous “ascent of the Marquesa”. According to the data obtained, La Orotava welcomed more than 5,000 people between public and participants during the morning of Sunday, 19 May at different points along the route.
The María Auxiliadora Solidarity Race of the Salesian Las Palmas School is in its its 15th edition, a sporting event that has become increasingly popular in the city. From 50 participants in the first editions, it has grown to more than 1,600 runners of all ages in the last edition of 2023. This year's event was held on Saturday, 4 May.
The 43rd edition of the María Auxiliadora Cross-country, organised by the Parents association at the Salesian School, with its president Luisa Tirado at the head, was held on 21 April through several in Algeciras. This race, which is one of the most traditional sporting events in the city is also a social, educational and cultural event that brings together the whole family in two different events: one of 5 kilometres and another of 10.
Another race that is gaining tradition is the one in Montilla, where in June they will celebrate the 21st edition organised by the Don Bosco Past Pupils Association, with the aim of promoting the values transmitted by the practice of sports in general and athletics in particular. This edition will take place on 22 June 2024.
On 10 May Salesiana Alcoy organised the 5th Edition of the Salesian Ciutat D'Alcoi Night Cross-country, a charity event whose proceeds go to the Salesian NGO Bosco Global specifically to the projects carried out both in Syria and Ukraine.
Salesians Úbeda held its 8th solidarity race organised by the Salesian Sports Club. The race involved some 800 participants who enjoyed a splendid afternoon of sport and conviviality. As it was a charity race, all the proceeds were donated to Bosco Global, and it had a specific impact on the neighbourhood of Gourle Diadie in Tambacounda (Senegal) where they intend to condition the area, to build a sports ground that will allow its inhabitants to have a decent area for sports practice.
It is held on the same day as the feast of Mary Help of Christians. The route is approximately 4 km through the streets of the neighbourhood around Cruces in Barakaldo (Vizcaya) and the target audience are students from 6th grade Primary to 4th ESO. Past Pupils and families of the centre are also invited to participate. During the celebration of the festival, this Thursday and Friday the Olympics will be held for infants to 4th ESO with different athletics, archery, shot put, shot put... with a prize giving ceremony on the podium as a final activity on Mary Help of Christians Day.
The Solidarity Race held around the month of Mary Help of Christians in Salesians Ciudad Real, took place this year on 28 April, Sunday, involving almost 300 students and families. The distances varied according to the categories.
Under the hashtag: #Correportucole the 40th edition of the MAUX cross-country in Guadalajara organised by the Salesians is held on Sunday 26 May. It takes place in an urban circuit of the city and is supported by the City Council of Guadalajara, the Provincial Council and the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha. It is a cross open to all ages.
