Turin, Italy - May 24, 2022 - After two years of waiting, the customary celebrations in honor of Mary Help of Christians returned to Turin on May 24, bringing together many faithful. On this occasion, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, presided at Mass in the Salesian basilica of Valdocco, reminding those present and the many who followed the event linked via the web that Mary "is a solid support for our faith." This was followed, as per tradition, by a solemn procession through the streets of Turin in the presence of Archbishop Emeritus of Turin, Msgr. Cesare Nosiglia, who led the long procession.
After the difficult years of the pandemic, which imposed "virtual" celebrations, the faithful around the world returned to churches, squares and streets everywhere to celebrate Mary Help of Christians. Indeed, Salesian communities paid homage to She Who "did everything" with numerous initiatives, making devotion to Mary Help of Christians, a distinctive feature of the Salesian charism, more alive than ever.
Thailand - May 2022 - Since last May 5, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, has been in Thailand to preach the Spiritual Exercises to the Superiors of all the Provinces, Vice-Provinces and Provincial Delegations of the Salesian Region of Asia East - Oceania and to visit the Salesian works in Thailand. After taking part in numerous events that led him to retrace the history of the Salesian presence and the Salesian Family in the country, the Successor of Don Bosco is currently engaged in the Spiritual Exercises, which are taking place in Hua Hin, at the Salesian Retreat House, which end on May 12.
Malta - April 2022 - From April 2 to 3, Pope Francis made his 36th Apostolic Journey abroad, visiting the archipelago of Malta. Pope Francis is the third Pontiff, after St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, to travel to this island, which represents the heart of the Mediterranean. They were two intense days for the Holy Father who, during these two days, touched on numerous themes: prayer, the joy of the Gospel, welcoming and protecting the human dignity of migrants. Also during this trip, the Pope's thoughts went to the war in Ukraine, to the "humanitarian tragedy" of a "martyred" country, inviting everyone to never tire of praying and helping those who suffer because of this war.
