Having already awarded two Salesian past students from the state of Minas Gerais, the Good Example Prize is now awarded in the state of Mato Grosso, and promoted by the TV "Centro América", an affiliate of the "Rede Globe" of Cuiabá. Here, too, among the award's five finalists, a project that gives due justice to Salesian values, and a reflection of the proactive spirit of a Salesian student of the Institute "São Gonçalo", was also selected.
In the TV station's broadcast report, Jeferson spoke of how the idea came to him and how he started collecting books from house-to-house until he came to create a collection that has now more than 6,000 titles. "I want to be of help to all," says the boy. "Reading can make people's lives better. If you read a book your mind is more open and joy arrives."
The report dedicated to him also shows the daily life of Jeferson in his school and includes interviews with his teachers and educators who commented on the student's qualities and the importance of his initiative. "Each book is a precious source of information. Jeferson's desire is to spread information and thus to gradually improve society, improve the world, and this has made us profoundly happy," said the school's headmaster, Fr Paulo Vendrame, SDB.
