Sal.es is the name of a youth musical reality that began to develop around the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in May 2021. It’s name conceals the objective: to be inspired by the holiness of St. Francis de Sales, for the depth that this figure represents and for the attention he dedicated to culture and the arts. But Sal.es (with the dot) also means "you are salt" in Latin. This naturally refers to the evangelical expression that encourages all of us to rise above mediocrity. Sal.es pursues this purpose by engaging with pieces of sacred music, polyphony, Gregorian chants, and high-quality folk music, particularly in reference to Mary, Mother Help of Christians.
This was also the case in Fatima on August 31 during the World Congress of ADMA, and similarly on Friday, January 17 in the Basilica, at the request of the Central Delegate of the Rector Major for the Secretariat for the Salesian Family, Fr Joan Luis Playa, and with the approval of both the Salesian community of Mary Help of Christians and the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Stefano Martoglio. Polyphonic pieces by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and other classical authors, Gregorian hymns, instrumental pieces, and some Marian compositions by the basilica's choirmaster enriched the evening. In the attentive silence of the participants at the 2025 spirituality days, the Basilica offered a genuine moment of prayer and beauty.
