RMG – 2025 Missionary Appeal

18 December 2024

(ANS – Rome) – Looking ahead to 2025, the Jubilee Holy Year and the 150th anniversary of the First Salesian Missionary Expedition, Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, currently in charge of the Congregation worldwide ( Art. 143 of the Constitutions), addresses a missionary appeal to all Salesians on the anniversary of the foundation of the Salesian Congregation, today, 18 December. "I am addressing this letter to you, renewing the spirit of our origins, the missionary spirit that has made the Congregation what it is from the beginning," Fr Martoglio writes.

It is with emotion that I give voice to the heart of the Congregation this year, on the 150th anniversary of the first missionary expedition. The celebration of this anniversary marks our heart and soul. It asks us to renew the missionary spirit that has always been at the heart of the charism, so that in thanking God for his fidelity, he may give future energy to evangelisation and the Congregation.

Naming the urgent situations where it is hoped to send a significant number of missionaries, the Vicar of the Rector Major invites the Provincials and with them Provincial Delegates for Mission Animation, to be the first to help their Salesian confreres to facilitate their discernment to respond to the missionary needs of the Congregation, confreres who will be sent on 11 November 2025, the exact day of the 150th anniversary of the first Salesian missionary expedition.
