America – Sustainability and communication: developing a network for the future of Salesian Social Works

17 October 2024

(ANS) – One of the strategic objectives of the Salesian Social America Network (RASS) is to promote effective communication of social works, which leads to the visibility of Salesian action and raises society's awareness of the reduction of social inequalities. For this reason, RASS is committed to promoting networking with the Communication Sector of the Salesian Congregation and is in close contact with Fr Ricardo Campoli, Salesian Social Communication Coordinator for America, and with the Social Communication Team of America (ECSA).

During the International Communication Conference, "Shaping Tomorrow" (Rome, 1- 7 August 2024), the representatives of RASS had a meeting with the ECSA team, with Fr Rafael Bejarano, Head of Salesian Works and Social Services within the Youth Ministry Sector, and with Fr Campoli, in which they spoke of the importance of collaborating with the Communication Sector to make the social impact of Salesian works visible, especially in assisting the social population in a situation of vulnerability.

More recently, on 2 October, the RASS team had a direct meeting in Ecuador with Tatiana Capelo, Delegate for Social Communication of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province (ECU) and coordinator of the ECSA, in which Fr Campoli, who was in the country on the occasion of his Animation Visit to the Province, and the RASS operational team also participated.

On the occasion, some initiatives were proposed to improve communication in the social sector in America, including:

-            coordinated regional campaigns to make social work visible at the continental level;

-            the development of a unified digital platform to facilitate transparency and reporting of social works;

-            the creation of common impact indicators to measure social work and its sustainability;

-            the launch of mini-documentaries in the form of testimonies that tell stories of life and transformation successfully carried out in Salesian social works, making the direct impact on communities visible.

These efforts are intended to activate communication processes, initiatives and products that, on the one hand, make the work and social impact of Salesian works aimed at assisting the vulnerable population in the region visible on a larger scale, and on the other hand, promote the transparency, responsibility and sustainability of these same works.
