Germany - "Bye for now, Fr Angel!"

01 December 2016

(ANS - Bonn) - "The Salesian Province of Germany is a Province that has great opportunities. It is very lively and eager to preserve this liveliness. Certainly, there are challenges to be faced, but we must never lose sight of disadvantaged young people." That was the message left by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, to the Salesians in Germany at the end of his five-day visit to the country.

The visit ended yesterday, Wednesday 30 November, with a Eucharist celebrated in the parish of St Winfried in Bonn. Bishop Stefan Oster SDB of Passau presided and the homily was preached by Fr Á.F. Artime.

With this visit Fr Á.F. Artime was able to have a complete overview of the situation of the German Salesian Province and of the situation of the Salesian Family, the youth condition, and the situations of marginalization they are facing.

In particular the Rector Major was able to appreciate two things: the prompt commitment and the practical and effective response to the needs of immigrants and refugees; and the level of involvement of the laity as genuine partners co-responsible in the mission.

Yesterday afternoon, after all the farewells to the various representatives of the German Salesian world, the Rector Major, accompanied as always by his secretary, Fr Horacio López, returned to Rome.

Photos of the visit are available on ANSFlickr.
