Italy – Technical training for staff in the Planning and Development Office of the Ukrainian Province

24 September 2024

(ANS – Rome) – On Monday, 23 September 2024, technical training began in Rome for the staff of the Planning and Development Office (PDO) of the Greek_Catholic Mary Help of Christians Vice-Province of Ukraine (UKR), which is based in Lviv.

This is part of the project carried out by the Italian Salesian bodies active in international solidarity – "Fondazione DON BOSCO NEL MONDO" (based in Rome), "Fondazione Opera Don Bosco onlus" (Milan), "Fondazione Opera Don Bosco nel Mondo" (Lugano, belonging to the Province of Lombardo-Emiliana Italy - ILE), "Missioni Don Bosco" (Turin), and "Volunteering International for Development" (VIS - Rome) – all of whom, shortly after the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, joined forces to provide concrete support to the Salesians who remained on the ground alongside the population.

The course will last two weeks and will develop in three stages. PDO staff will carry out the first part of their training at the VIS in Rome and then move first to Turin, visiting Missioni Don Bosco, and then to Milan, at the headquarters of the Fondazione Opera Don Bosco onlus.

The course, which will cover the areas of planning, administration, security, human resources and communication, will alternate with meetings and visits that will be an important opportunity for the participants to deepen their knowledge of the Salesian world.

The start of the course, held at the VIS headquarters on Monday 23 September, was given by Fr Luca Barone, Councilor for VIS, accompanied by Alberto Rodríguez, President of the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and Fr Jose Joseph Marottiyakulam, PDO Reference person for the Salesian Congregation.

Among the participants are the UKR Provincial Economer, Fr Ivan Mazurkevych, and some staff members of VIS active in Ukraine.
