“Our gratitude to the Vietnamese confreres, particularly, Fr. Barnaba Le An Phong, the Provincial and his council for the care for every confrere at the meeting”, said the Rector Major as he appreciated the spirit and lively atmosphere amidst the violence and difficulties, and the lack of freedom that some experience in their countries. He made mention of the openness, the ability to listen and above all to journey together. “This is an important and a beautiful visible journey that we have experienced”, he continued.
The Rector Major's concluding remarks unveiled a comprehensive roadmap designed to guide the Salesian provinces in the coming years. Underscoring the utmost importance of Salesian Identity, he emphasized the vitality of the Salesian charism and its transformative power. The notion of shared responsibility among the laity in advancing the Salesian mission, even in the face of limited resources, was a key focal point. Additionally, the Rector Major stressed the need for personalized formation aligned with one's vocational calling, while cautioning against the pitfalls of individualism. The significance of effective Social Communication, encompassing the charismatic, pastoral, and institutional aspects, was also emphasized. Notably, the urgent need to embrace and respond to the ever-growing digital culture was highlighted as a critical priority. Ultimately, the Rector Major called for a united commitment to realize a shared mission and foster an open, charismatic Salesian formation within the wider Salesian Family.
Fr. Gregorio Bicomong, speaking on behalf of the participants, expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support of the Rector Major and the General Council. He commended the Rector Major for his exceptional leadership, acknowledging his attentive listening and remarkable dedication despite the demanding nature of the journey. Additionally, he extended gratitude to Fr. Joseph Phuoc for skillfully navigating the program, ensuring that necessary adjustments were made to benefit all participants. The Vietnamese confreres were specifically singled out for their extraordinary hospitality, creating an atmosphere of warmth and genuine welcome throughout their time at K'Long.
Radiating with contentment and delight, Fr. Barnaba Le An Phong, the Provincial of Vietnam, expressed profound happiness not only for himself but also on behalf of his confreres. The opportunity to host the EAO Team visit was viewed as a great privilege and a precious gift. Reflecting on the meticulous preparations that spanned an entire year, he expressed trust that the visiting confreres found solace and satisfaction in their experience.
During the evening prayers, Fr. Bosco Zaya Aung, the Provincial of Myanmar, offered heartfelt gratitude to his fellow confreres for their steadfast support amidst the daily struggles faced in his province. He specifically acknowledged the invaluable aid received from the provinces of Japan and Korea, highlighting their unwavering solidarity. In a poignant and moving presentation, he shed light on the challenges his province confronts, particularly the prolonged violence, while celebrating the sheer joy derived from living the Salesian charism in the face of adversity.
The Team Visit concluded on a very joyful note, with a sumptuous gala dinner featuring delectable traditional Vietnamese cuisine. The jubilant mood and infectious enthusiasm were palpable among all participants as they bid farewell and embarked on their journeys back to their respective provinces. Armed with profound insights and cherished memories, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and a reinvigorated commitment to the Salesian mission, ready to make a lasting impact in their communities.
