Italy – A new set of appointments on “What kind of Salesians for the youth of today?”

15 November 2023

(ANS – Rome) – In continuity with the meetings of previous years, the Conference of Salesian Provinces of Italy (CISI) - Formation Sector and the Study Centre of the "Living Tabernacles" Work propose the fourth edition of the in-depth meetings of the series “What kind of Salesians for the youth of today?”, based on the Rector Major’s action guidelines following  General Chapter 28.

It is a simple and usable formation opportunity offered to Salesian communities and lay people who share our mission. In the first three years, there were more than 25,000 video views. The first edition explored the Salesian sacrament of presence (3rd action guidelines), the second edition developed the consecrated identity of the Salesian in the vital relationship with Jesus (1st action guideline), the third edition focused on the urgency of “Da mihi animas, cetera tolle” (2nd action guideline). In the year 2023-2024 the focus will be on formation to be Salesian pastors today (4th action guideline).

Given the choice of the GC29 theme, the monthly interviews will take into account what it means to form Salesian pastors today: “Passionate about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people”.

The meetings will begin on Saturday 18 November from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. with an interview with Fr Enrico Ponte, Novice Director, on  "Going beyond the gap between formation and mission".

As in previous editions, the Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, wil lcontinue to comment, explore and explain what  the "formation of Salesian pastors today" means in today's context, and he will do so in the interview scheduled for Saturday, 9 December 2023.

There will also be an exploration of the "formation of being a Salesian pastor" understood from today's cultural challenges, through a gospel interpretation of the signs of the times with Fr Andrea Bozzolo, Rector Magnificus of the Pontifical Salesian University (Saturday, 13 January); what kind of fraternal life and mission for today, with Fr Silvio Roggia (Saturday, 17 February); the call to Salesians in the "Take me with you" and Eucharistic centrality as a key to formation today, with Mr. Paolo Zini and Fr Matteo Rupil (Saturday, 16 March); and the presence of women in the community and Mamma Margaret today, with Mrs. Anna Sansoni (Saturday, 13 April).

The now proven approach includes online formation meetings by way of interviews, with the possibility of exploring the topic through the questions submitted by participants during the live broadcast, and through chat.

The meetings will be broadcast live from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. (UTC+1) on ANSChannel (ANS's YouTube channel), and on the "Don Bosco Italia" Facebook page on the Saturdays indicated, and will remain available on the respective platforms to be reviewed later.

The target group for the meetings are all Salesians in initial and ongoing formation and members of Salesian Family groups who wish to experience further exploration of the charism.
