(ANS – Vatican City) – On 30 September last, during the Ecumenical Prayer Vigil for the opening of the Synod in St Peter's Square, and as part of "Together – Gathering of the People of God", the Via Creationis was presented as a fourth moment of thanksgiving for the gift of Creation, after thanks for the gifts of unity and the synodal journey, the gift of the other and the gift of peace. The Via Creationis, conceived by the Laudato Si' Movement, consists of 7 stations, like the days of Creation, in which the following are celebrated:

–       THE GOODNESS OF LIGHT

–       THE GOODNESS OF THE SKIES

–       THE GOODNESS OF THE LAND AND THE SEA

–       THE GOODNESS OF HEAVENLY BODIES

–       THE GOODNESS OF CREATURES OF THE WATER AND THE AIR

–       THE GOODNESS OF THE CREATURES OF THE EARTH

–       THE GOODNESS OF EVERYTHING

The ecumenical vigil was also a propitious moment to remember that Creation needs care. And indeed it was remembered on this occasion: "While we thank God for the gift of creation, we also recognise how we have failed to take care of it, causing the ecological crisis in its different dimensions: climate change and its consequences for vulnerable populations, decrease in biodiversity, accumulation of toxic pollution in the air, water, soil. All this represents a serious threat for generations to come and feeds a global ecological anxiety that affects the youngest and opens the way to more conflicts."

Young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) were part of the event in St Peter's Square, accompanied by the World SYM Coordinator, Fr Jose Lorbeth Vivo, and the Youth Ministry contact person for Integral Ecology, Emanuela Chiang, who read the introduction to the Via Creationis.
