That in Salesian Slovakia, Zatti's canonization has aroused great interest and sparked many creative initiatives is an undeniable fact. For the thousands of lucky people present in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall at the meeting with the Pope on the eve of Zatti's sanctification, the presence of three Slovakian Salesian coadjutors, dressed in their lab coats and made up for the occasion to look as much like the Patagonian saint as possible, shall remain unforgettable.
Just as the Rector Major himself, Father Ángel Fernández Artime, had publicly praised, through a message of his own, the initiative of the Salesians and young people of Žilina, explaining its profound meaning: "The icon will become a sign with which to travel the places of Don Bosco, through the intercession of St. Artemide, with his own apostolic passion; but at the same time, during the pilgrimage, the icon made by the young Slovaks will be a sign of the presence of all the young people of the world to whom we are sent."
With their artistic and symbolic power, today these icons are available to all who wish to purchase them. They are made of painted wood, in two different formats (pocket size, 8x12 cm, and 12x18 cm, to hang) and present Zatti in five of his best-known representations: in a reproduction of the icon by Lara Sacco and delivered to the Pope and the Rector Major; as a Good Samaritan bending over the sick; with smock and bicycle; half-length in the more mature version; and in a reproduction of a famous photo of him.
The icons, produced by students and faculty of the Center for Vocational Training (VTC), can be requested on the Žilina Work website. For the 2022/2023 school year, they can be ordered by April 30, 2023, with delivery expected this next summer.
On the same site, it is also possible to learn more about the entire Salesian work in Žilina, as well as view and order other products of the local VTC.
