India – Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco have a New Superior General & Council

(ANS – Shillong) – The Congregation of the Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco (VSDB), a unit of the Salesian Family based at Shillong-Guwahati, India typically driven by their moto of the congregation “Go Disciple” (Mt 28:19) have just concluded their 5th General Chapter (held from 20-30 August 2022 at Shillong, India) and elected their new members to their leadership.

The new team consists of Sr. Mabel Dhar (Superior General), Sr. Cecilia Sad (Vicar General: Religious Life & Formation), Sr. Kashini Auxilia Mao (Councillor – Evangelization & Youth Ministry), Sr. Ridalin Mawlong (councillor – Social & Healthcare Ministry) & Sr. Justina Kahit (Councillor -Education & Parents Association).

Having served the congregation earlier the Vicar General, Rev. Sr. Mabel Dhar takes up the leadership from Sr. Biolinda Jyrwa who has been at the helm of affairs in the last 6 years (2015-2022) and made the first in-roads into Bangladesh as a new frontier for their ministry. Sr. Mabel, 55 years old was born at Mawlieh, Meghalaya State in India and after completion of her studies as a medical nurse went onto complete also her postgraduation in Christianity. She has rich experience mission areas, healthcare, has years of experience in leadership positions including her roles in animation, executive and leadership positions in other ecclesiastical institutions including the Catholic Religious of India (CRI), Catholic Health Association of INDIA (CHAI) & Shillong (CHAS), Catholic Health Association (CHAW) of the western region, Northeastern Community Health Association (NECHA) etc.,

The Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco (now a congregation of Diocesan Right – under the care of the Metropolitan Archbishop of the diocese of Shillong) was founded by Archbishop Rt. Rev. Hubert D’Rosario SDB at Shillong, India in 1983.

Today they reach out to the youth in rural and neglected urban areas focusing on evangelical, catechetical, educative, health care and social apostolate and have 176 professed sisters, 11 novices and 31 presences across Northeast India, (Nunchera Punji – Sylhet Diocese) Bangladesh and South Sudan in Africa.
