The ceremony was attended by important authorities of the Region, alongside the school coordination council, led by the Director, Fr Marco Vergara. Mr. André Sougarret, Vice-President of "Codelco Distrito Norte", who was also present for the occasion, illustrated on how mining techniques are changing and spoke of the necessity to employ professionals with ever greater skills. The company and the industry not only require specialists in the field of mechanics and electronics, but also who also know the mining processes that the company is newly developing.
The Director & President of the Student Center, Guadalupe Rojas, and Betsabet Muñoz, the President of the General Center for Parents, also participated in the signing of this important agreement.
Finally, Mr. Ricardo Díaz, the Regional Governor of Antofagasta, concluded: "it is very significant that there is high quality vocational training in the Region, a technical training that perhaps we could improve by issuing apt certifications in order to guarantee a high employability of young people in our region."
The Salesian school has signed important strategic agreements for and in the mining sector, including the formation of future professionals in underground mines, thus strengthening its links with the state mining company.
Later, the dignitories visited the school's laboratories and workshops, where students and teachers shared their knowledge of the mining processes.
The Director of the school of Calama, Fr Marco Vergara, declared: "This important milestone, wanted by the Codelco company, is an important contribution to the construction of the fifth stage of the school, as it allows us to build a happy world for our young people. We entrust ourselves to God so that all these good intentions will come true, like the dream fulfilled of our Father and teacher St. John Bosco.”
