India – A seminar on "Teacher Spirituality"
Naigaon, India – January 2024 – The Don Bosco Naigaon team began the new year with a seminar held on January 2 on "Teacher Spirituality". The seminar was led by Fr Solomon Rodrigues, of the Diocese of Vasai and was attended by ninety staff members from the various departments of the school and college. The Principal, Fr Anthony Fonseca, welcomed the participants and introduced Fr Rodrigues, renowned for his spirituality. During his lecture Fr Rodrigues stressed the need to make learning enjoyable for students throughout the lesson, highlighting that teaching is a vocation rather than a profession. He said that educators have a duty that goes beyond the simple transmission of knowledge by giving top priority to helping pupils acquire moral principles, empathy and kindness. Fr Rodrigues focused on the importance of teachers developing their spirituality through prayer and meditation in such a way as to be a model for their students; encouraging them and helping them to face the difficulties of life. At the end of the conference, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, Vice-Principal, led a moment of dialogue with questions from attendees.
