Goa, India - October 2023 - The Government of Goa, through the Directorate of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the All Goa Senior Citizen Federation, and the Ravindra Bhavan Margao Department, has honoured Fr George Quadros, a Salesian from the India- Panjim Province (INP), for his service to the people in the agricultural sector. Fr Quadros received a tribute from Goa's Minister of Social Welfare, Subhash Phal Dessai, as a promoter of mechanised community agriculture in Goa, having brought innovations to the Indian state that have enabled 400 hectares of uncultivated land to be transformed into rice fields, thus reviving a love for agriculture and the environment among the youth of Goa. In 2000, Fr Quadros had led a project that had been instrumental in seven villages covering an area of 21,000 hectares, and had succeeded in profoundly improving the cultivation of the land. Now Fr Quadros will join the Goa government committee to collaborate in the drafting of the agricultural policy.
