Spain - Meeting of Salesian Mission Volunteers
Astudillo, Spain - March 2022 - On the weekend of March 5-6, the third day of formation for the Salesian Mission Volunteers of the "St James the Greater" (SSM) Province took place. The meeting brought together 31 volunteers from various houses of the province, accompanied by the Volunteer Formation team. The participants reflected on the experience they shall live next summer, focusing on "being" - the importance of "being" Salesians - and sharing with the Salesian community wherein the volunteers will live their experience. Fr Santi Domínguez then explained to the participants the importance of Youth Ministry in the Salesian world and education. "Education is accompanying each person and helping them to be themselves, to bring out their best 'self', to develop all their potential as human beings," he said. Also discussed was the importance of enculturation in the countries and communities where volunteers go to live. The ability to observe and learn from the missionaries with whom they will be working was valued, as well as the possibility of living the Salesian Pastoral Education Project in the field, to thoroughly understand the context into which they will be integrated as volunteers. During the meeting, various practical matters were also discussed and Fr José Carlos Sobejano presented the volunteers with their destinations.
