Tanzania - Hundreds of catechists formed for Tanzanian Church: "Catechetical Formation Centre" of Makalala-Mafinga
Mafinga, Tanzania - February 2022 - The "Catechetical Formation Center" located in Makalala, near Mafinga, Tanzania, is an important work for all of Africa. The community, which has three Salesians, accompanied by a Teresian Sister and some lay collaborators, has been active for over 10 years. During this time it has accompanied and trained in catechetical service several hundred lay faithful, who then put themselves at the service of the entire local Church, in the diocese of Iringa, and beyond. During his Extraordinary Visit to the Province of East Africa (AFE), the Extraordinary Visitor "ad nutum" and "pro tempore" Fr Václav Klement, was able to get to know this reality up close, listen to the stories and challenges of future catechists and learn how they are formed. Here, the trainees not only receive the fundamental intellectual formation in Theology, Pedagogy, Methodology or Psychology, but they also practice for two years in parishes, oratories and Salesian schools. There are currently 43 students in training.
