Rwanda - Rango parish church blessed and inaugurated

13 May 2021

Rango, Rwanda - May 2021 - On 9 May, in the Salesian parish of “St John Bosco” in Rango, Butare, Msgr. Philippe Rukamba, bishop of the diocese of Butare, presided over the blessing and inauguration of the completely renovated parish church. The renewal of the old church, where the first Mass was celebrated on Christmas 1986, was possible thanks to the efforts of the parishioners and the Salesian Vice Province of Africa Great Lakes (AGL). The renovations took a long time due to the pandemic. Fr Pierre-Célestin Ngoboka, Superior of the AGL Vice Province, speaking of the uncertainty in which the works began, recalled the circumstances in which Don Bosco built the great churches, and cited the saint's historic phrase referring to Mary Help of Christians, that it was all her doing. The parish priest of Rango, Fr Remy Nsengiyumva, then recalled the story of this praiseworthy initiative to completely renovate the old church.
