Makati City, Philippines - December 2020 - The Salesian parish of "St Ildefonso" in Makati City, belonging to the Salesian Province of the Northern Philippines (FIN), through the Social Action Group, has been carrying out the initiative "Mary's Kitchen". Early in the morning, three times a week, food is cooked and transported in a van to distribute to poor people living on the street, next to railroad tracks, in shacks, as well as people living, forced by lockdown, in "Jeepneys" (12/18-seater vehicles). About 500 people a week use the service, among them many children and young people. "The initiative was born from the desire to look outside our doors, as Pope Francis invites us to do, especially during these times of pandemic," said Fr Ric Lorenzo Fernando, SDB, Economer of the parish and of the Salesian community. The action is carried out thanks to the support of many benefactors. The parish youth ministry also participates in the project, and the aim is to make it a daily service.
