RMG – Don Bosco Feast Day 2020 in Valdocco

(ANS - Rome) - January 31, the feast day of St John Bosco: there will be countless celebrations around the world to remember the figure of the Saint of Youth. But it is in Valdocco, obviously, the beating heart of the Salesian charism, that the gaze of the global Salesian Family will focus upon. All the more reason this year, due to the presence of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, who in recent years had instead spent the feast day in other locations symbolizing the Salesian mission in the world: Freetown (Sierra Leone), Santo Domingo (Rep. Dominican Republic), Dili (East Timor) and Panama City.

Scheduled at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians are:

Wednesday 29 January

  • 9.00 pm Prayer vigil in the historical places of Valdocco: from the courtyard to the relic of the saint. On this occasion, the Sand Art show, curated by Compagnia Sabbie Luminose, will present the figure of Don Bosco.

Thursday 30 January

  • 7 pm - First Vespers of the Feast of St John Bosco. The Rector Major presides.

Friday 31 January

  • 7:00 am - Mass. Fr Sabino Frigato, SDB, Episcopal Vicar for Consecrated Life, presides.
  • 8:30 am - Mass. Fr Enrico Stasi, SDB, Provincial of Piedmont-Valle d'Aosta Special District, presides before young people of the Valdocco schools.
  • 10:00 am - Mass. Presiding Fr Leonardo Mancini, SDB, Master of Novices.
  • 11:00 am - Solemn Concelebration. Fr Guido Errico, SDB, Rector of the Basilica, presides. Live broadcast on www.missionidonbosco.org 
  • 3 pm - Blessing of children and young people. Fr Guido Dutto, SDB, parish priest "Mary Help of Christians", presides
  • 4 pm - Solemn Vespers. Deacon Paolo De Martino (diocesan Biblical apostolate referent) presides.
  • 5 pm - Mass. Presided by Msgr. Marco Brunetti, Bishop of Alba.
  • 6:30 pm - Solemn Concelebration with the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM). The Rector Major presides. Live broadcast on www.missionidonbosco.org 
  • 9 pm - Solemn Concelebration. Presided by Msgr. Cesare Nosiglia, Archbishop of Turin. Live broadcast on www.missionidonbosco.org

  • 9 pm - Eucharistic adoration vigil with and for young people.

Friday 31 January

  • 11:00 am - Solemn Mass. Presided by Msgr. Alceste Catella, emeritus bishop of Casale.
  • 5 pm - Solemn Mass. Presided by Msgr. Francesco Ravinale, emeritus bishop of Asti.
