The event, which will have its final stop on 7 July, is chaired by Khan Prachuabmoh, president of the Foundation, and by Fr Charles Velardo, SDB, a member of the Foundation's Board of Directors and responsible for the activities.
This initiative, organized with normally sighted people pedalling together with the visually impaired, started in Chiangmai last January 27th. From there, the ride reached Nakorn Ratchasima on February 10th, in Khon Kaen on March 10th, again in Chonburi on May 12th, in Surat Thani on June 9th and is expected to arrive in Bangkok on July 7th.
The main purpose of this activity is to showcase the skills learned by the blind to the general public. Over time, they have trained hard and with this ride have finally had the chance to show what they have learned in recent months.
For seeing people who joined the initiative, instead, it was an opportunity to help the blind, to make them feel involved in normal sports activities and to raise awareness of society towards them.
Cycling with the blind is not the only initiative that Salesians carry out in Thailand. In the Pakkret district, in fact, the Congregation runs the Skills Development Center for the Blind, while in Sampran the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians run a Skills Training Center for Blind Women.
These two centers are an integral part of the "Foundation for the Blind".
