Croatia - Feast of Mary Help of Christians
Zagreb, Croatia - May 2019 - The Salesians and the faithful of the parish of Mary Help of Christians in Zagreb celebrated their patronal feast on May 24th. The Mass was presided over by Msgr. Juraj Batelja, Postulator for the Cause of Saints of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, archbishop of Zagreb and martyr, founder of the parish in 1937 and great collaborator of the Salesians. The procession with the statue of Mary Help of Christians then marched through the streets of the parish, accompanied by thousands of people, including many members of the Salesian Family. Before the Eucharist, Msgr. Batelja had blessed the painting entitled "Croatia Cruciata", created almost half a century ago by Romolo Venucci, an Italian painter and sculptor. The impressive historical work was commissioned by the Salesians of the time, but they had to keep it hidden because of the communist persecution. The picture, recently restored, will remain permanently exhibited in the sacristy.
