Vatican - "Remain in peace, I ask you with my heart"
Vatican City, Vatican - April 2019 - On the afternoon of April 11, at the "Domus Sanctae Marthae", the concluding moment of the spiritual retreat for the civil and ecclesiastical authorities of South Sudan was held, organized by mutual agreement between the Vatican State Secretariat and the Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Msgr. Justin Welby. After the concluding speech of the retreat, Pope Francis kissed the feet of the President and Vice Presidents of South Sudan, an extraordinary sign to invoke the commitment of South Sudanese leaders for peace. Subsequently, a Bible signed by the Holy Father, Archbishop Welby and Rev. John Chalmers, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland, was delivered to the participants with the message: “Research what unites. Overcome what divides”. Thus the blessing was imparted to the leaders of South Sudan, who made the common commitment to peace.
