During the presentation ceremony, held at the "Hilda Chang" hall of the Catholic University Silva Henríquez, dr. Moreno commented that technology can make a great contribution to society; and in this case, specifically to people living in the streets, of which there are 12,500 across the country, of whom about 700 are minors. "Not only do they not have a roof over their heads or income, but they are often disconnected from their families, victims of addictions and struggling with many other difficulties. That's why they deserve our best efforts. We have given priority to them and we will continue to work together on this," he said.
The app allows users to update the mapping of the territory, improving the actions of intervention with the street children. It will provide intervention teams that are active in the streets with online information that will increase their knowledge of the territories, providing support for planning visits and increasing the chances of meeting with minors in the streets. It will allow to plan actions and social operations on the road and to define strategies to intervene with the groups in the most hidden areas; finally, it will also allow to better characterize the territories of transit of the minors and to report what they do in those areas and what they are exposed to.
The Executive Director of the Foundation, Sergio Mercado, presented the application as a tool that will allow to meet the minors in street condition and give them quality time. "We have designed this app to bring affection, love and care of professionals to children who suffer on the streets."
Since 1998 the non-profit organization "Fundación Don Bosco" accompanies vulnerable children and young people who suffer from the conditions of their social environment and the lack of opportunities. "In the Foundation there are 170 people working in 3 projects for street children and youngsters, a family residence and a reception center for street children. We currently serve nearly 160 street children in more than 15 municipalities in the metropolitan region," said Fr Mora.
