Don Bosco developed the original purpose of his mission - states the Youth Pastoral Reference Framework - to reveal to poor youth the love that God has for them. But a mission must be planned, organized, prepared. Furthermore, if the project is provincial or national, it must be prepared and projected into the future of Salesian presences and of hundreds of people, and this activity acquires a profound meaning. Therefore, "the project assumes the value of a navigation or road map and reference guide, in which the starting and arrival points are coded ... It is a map that guides the educational passion and the service to the weakest."
The "Domingo Savio" Institute of Cordoba was the seat of the extraordinary assembly that gathered the provincial representatives of the SYM in Argentina last weekend.
The young delegates of the five Provinces of the Salesians and of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the country took part: Argentina North and Southern Argentina, for the Salesians; Argentina Rosario, Argentina Bahía Blanca and Argentina Buenos Aires, for the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. In addition, representatives of the Argentinean Provincial Meeting (RIA), the Argentine Salesian Secretariat (SAS) and pastoral experts from each of these centers were also present.
Of note, the fact that SYM National Assemblies are normally held every four years and that the last one took place in 2017, having among its objectives the revision of the SYM "Identity Card" and its updating according to the reality experienced in each area. On that occasion, most of the letter was written - although the last point was missing - referring to a national organic project. That is, thinking of a structure that combines the SYM of each Province of the country.
Exactly what this extraordinary assembly of SYM dedicated itself to, which in fact defined a SYM National Commission common to the five Provinces, and established the common criteria for the designation of its members. The proposed solutions have been unanimously approved.
The assembly also provided moments for presentations, prayer, meeting and sharing animated by the different realities. It ended with a Eucharist presided over by Fr Gabriel Romero, Provincial of North Argentina.
