India – President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra” at DBTech Society

(ANS – Ranchi) – Honorable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra” (PMKK) located in Ranchi through video conferencing during his visit to Deogarh (Jharkhand) on April 2, 2017. Don Bosco Tech Society in partnership with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) initiated this aspirational model training centre under the flagship skill development initiative, “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK)”.

Don Bosco Industrial Training Centre is a highly regarded ITI in Ranchi from which thousands of youth benefited through various formal technical skill courses of longer duration. But the initiative by NSDC to establish a PMKK centre in partnership with Don Bosco Tech Society certainly helps many youngsters to train in various short duration courses in service and manufacturing sectors, certified by Sector Skill Councils and offering them an entry level opportunity to lead their lives.

The first PMKK centre of Ranchi established at Don Bosco Industrial Training Centre in Kokar, aims to impart training to unemployed youth in various job sectors like Hospitality, Welding, Automobile Repair, Retail, and Computer related courses.

Shri Ram Tahal Choudhary (Member of Parliament, Ranchi) inaugurated the PMKK centre at Don Bosco Kokar, in the presence of Dr. Jitu Charan Ram (Member of Legislative Assembly, Ranchi), Mr. Thushar Vijay vargiya, (Parliamentary Representative), Father A.M. Joseph (Executive Director, Don Bosco Tech Society) Father Shilanad Kerketta, Rector of Don Bosco Kokar, staff and students, students of neighborhood and local Authorities.

Inaugurating the PMKK in Ranchi, Shri Ram Tahal Choudhary said, “today education and training must focus on inculcating human and social values in the minds of the young in order to take care of the family and society ... Ethos of the culture must be maintained. Social and moral value based skill training must reflect in the formation of character of the individual ...This must reflect in his attitude, skill and knowledge...”

Addressing the youngsters present at the occasion, Shri. Dr. Jitu Charan Ram (Member of Legislative Assembly, Ranchi) formally said, “Without skill you cannot reach your goal...man is useless without skill.”

Addressing the youngsters in the occasion, Father A. M. Joseph (Executive Director, Don Bosco Tech) said, “this is a great opportunity to join hands with the government to bring skills training to the youth of our country. Today, society needs quality services which presupposes qualified labour, what Don Bosco offers in skill with focus on life skills that prepares them to integrate in society and lead a dignified life”.

In the skill sector, Don Bosco Tech Society is a network of more than 400 skill training centers that attempts to bridge this widening divide between those who have access to opportunities and those who are increasingly being marginalized from the `new economy` jobs.

Don Bosco Tech Society has a mandate to skill 2 million youngsters by 2022. Being a major player in the skill sector, Don Bosco Tech will be setting up 30 PMKK centres in Karnataka, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi. In Jharkhand, Don Bosco Tech will initiate the PMKK centres in Hazaribagh, Kodarma, Lohardhaga and Ramgarh.

Skills development is now a national priority and India has a long way to go in realizing the benefits of its demographic dividend. As a leader in the skill development sector, Don Bosco Tech always gives a platform to launch underprivileged youth into the dignified and bright future they deserve.
