From November 7th to December 7th, “Salesians for Social and Civil Service” took part in the Solidarity Olympiad, an initiative of education to active citizenship born within the European “Alliance” network to make young people aware of global issues.
In practical terms, this implied that the youth of the Salesian Centres of Modica, Locri and Novara, for each hour of study they did, allocate 1 Euro in favour of a solidarity project of Reejer Association (Reejer – Réseau des Enfant et Jeunes de la Rue – Network of Educators of Street Children and Youth). Thanks to the joint efforts of many institutions (also from France, Germany, Finland and Morocco) “Reejer” commits itself to promote the education of 330 young girls of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This is therefore an initiative that helps the needy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo while educating Italian children to solidarity.
In the same line there is also the initiative that invites to “hang three hopes to the Christmas tree”: i.e. warm meals, medical check-ups and school items for the poor and lonely youth the Salesians host all over the Italian territory.
Thanks to this project, in view of the festivities, those who wish can decorate their Christmas tree and their home with solidarity decorations – hand made Christmas figures, Christmas stars, pendant decorations, small nativity scenes and other decorations – that will bring help and new opportunities to those who are more in need: the youth of home-families, of day centres, those of group apartments (for people who have newly become of age and face adult life), foreign non-accompanied minors …
To reserve your gifts, preferably within December 8th, you only need to fill in the form you find at the bottom of the page: http://www.salesianiperilsociale.it/regali-natale-2016-salesiani-sociale/
“Salesians for Social and Civil Service” believes in hospitality, accompaniment, education and social inclusion of the young in difficult situations and does it in Italy through 31 home families, 30 daily centres and 17 reception centres.
