(ANS – Rome) – The World Confederation of Past Pupils of Don Bosco joins the entire Salesian Family in expressing heartfelt gratitude to Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, who today, 16 August, concludes his term as Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation. In a short message, signed by the President of the World Confederation, Bryan Magro, the Past Pupils say they are grateful for the inspiration, leadership and guidance that the Rector Major has given in recent years.

“During the period in which he was at the head of the Congregation, he was a real father figure" the statement reads "his wisdom, honesty and integrity have been a spiritual compass for all of us. He constantly encouraged us with his energy and enthusiasm, reminding us to remain faithful to our vocation as children of Don Bosco", they continue.

In the same message, in addition to thanks, greetings are expressed to Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime for the new mission at the service of the universal Church.

"On this special day, we wish Fr Ángel all the good possible to undertake his new mission at the service of the universal Church, led by our beloved Pope Francis.
