04 August 2024

(ANS – Vatican) – On 3 August 2024, the third day of the "Shaping Tomorrow" Communication Conference, the participants were given a special visit to the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See.

Two afternoon sessions were held - one at the Vatican Press Office and another at Vatican Radio. The participants were divided into two language groups, with the English group receiving a session led by Dr Nataša Govekar, the Director of the newly constituted Theological Pastoral Department in the Dicastery for Communications. She spoke about the functioning of the Vatican Press Office and the initiatives of the Dicastery for Communications.

Sr. Nina Krapić, collaborator of the Theological Pastoral Department for the Pentecost project, spoke about the "From Tourist to Pilgrim" podcasts available in 5 languages. Sr Nina also presented the "Pentecost Project", which aims to build a dynamic global network of sisters' voices in the Vatican Media, while also demonstrating how sisters are contributing to the Church's work. This project includes an online training and internship program for Religious Sisters, with 3 months of training in Rome on Strategic Communication and Crisis Communication.

Later, Msgr. Lucio Adrián Ruiz, the Secretary of the Dicastery for Communications, spoke about the rethinking of the Information System of the Holy See. He explained that until 2015, the Dicastery for Communications consisted of nine entities, including the Vatican Television Center, Vatican Publishing House, and L'Osservatore Romano newspaper, among others. The Dicastery had around 650 staff members, which was reduced to 570 after the implementation of new reforms in 2018. He also mentioned that the media content is now produced daily in 53 languages.

The visit concluded with a short prayer held in the Chapel of Vatican Radio, where daily Holy Masses are broadcasted in several languages throughout the day. The participants of the “Shaping Tomorrow” Communication Conference were fully enthused and inspired after hearing and seeing the heart of the Church's Communication Hub.
