The course, aimed at European youth workers, was held by the Auryn association in León and involved workers and volunteers from different organisations. The objective was to encourage reflection on the challenges that the European Union must face now and in the future, promoting participation and European citizenship.
A learning experience was developed in which, through non-formal, dynamic and participatory educational methods, the following contents were addressed, as explained by the organisers.
Europe and the challenge of human rights: starting from the Salesian educational style and focusing on the great importance of respect for human rights and human rights education in young people, an analysis of the risks encountered in society with regard to human rights was made. Conflicts currently underway, such as in Palestine, and global passivity in the face of humanitarian dramas of this calibre were studied. The richness of a diverse and intercultural European society and the key to promoting intercultural education and learning were also highlighted.
Europe and the challenge of Fake News: an analysis of the risks of Fake News in society was conducted, analysing the so-called "Pyramid of Hate". How the media often misinform and promote hate speech was analysed. All participants drew up a decalogue of best practices to combat and prevent the negative effects of Fake News.
Europe and the challenge of a green and sustainable Europe: from daily habits and the exchange of sustainable best practices, the impact of the ecological footprint was analysed. The concept of ecological footprint emerges as an indicator of sustainability that seeks to measure the impact that our lifestyle has on the environment. All the decisions we make as consumers in our daily lives have an impact on the planet. This environmental impact is expressed as the amount of biologically productive land needed for each person to produce the resources needed to maintain their lifestyle.
Challenges of the present and future of Europe: an analysis of the current situation of the European Union and the global challenges that we face as a society was conducted, reflecting on the possible solutions and educational strategies to be implemented in the youth sector. All this with the aim that the reflections and learnings acquired in this European learning experience can be useful and applied locally by youth workers in their daily work.
This learning activity was coordinated and facilitated, as mentioned, by the Auryn association in the city of León and co-funded by the European Union, through the Erasmus Plus Programme.
