India – Gauri Gurav, from the Don Bosco high school in Naigaon, has been selected to participate in the SAFF Under 16 Women's Football Championship
Naigaon, India – February 2024 – The coach of the Indian Under 16 women's team, Biby Thomas Muttath, has announced the 23-member squad that will take part in the next South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championship to be held in Lalitpur, Nepal, from 1 to 10 March 2024. Among those summoned there is also a student from Don Bosco high school in Naigaon, Gauri Gurav, who will be the first girl from the district of Palghar to represent India in football. Fr Anthony Fonseca, SDB, Principal of the school, in congratulating her also encouraged other students to play sports and stressed the importance of courage, collaboration and sharing to succeed in future ventures. The Vice-Principal of the school and Sports Director, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, joined the congratulations, adding how the institute is committed to creating transformational leadership through sport and how the coach-athlete relationship strengthens the sense of group. Gauri, for her part, thanked God and recalled the many sacrifices made to achieve this dream, expressing a thought for her parents, the coach and the Salesian school for having believed in her and cultivated her talent.
