The Conference will have a scientific, educational and practical character; it will also be a continuation of the activities and themes of the School of Communication and in part of the events linked to the bicentenary of Don Bosco’s 9-year Dream. In addition, it will offer the opportunity to visit Rome, the Salesian places and the media linked to the Vatican.
“We are organising this event primarily for Communication Delegates from around the world and those who work with them. Therefore, in addition to the Delegates, other people involved in communication work are also invited to attend the meeting” Fr Maciej Makula, coordinator of the conference, states.
The conference is organised in accordance with the Salesian Congregation’s guidelines on social communication and the Sector’s guidelines (evangelical, synodal, Salesian, convergent and artistic communication). Its main objective is to help guide social communication in the Salesian Family, as well as to help educate for correct and effective social communication within the Salesian Family. The objective is also to get to know more and more the world of communication of the young, with the young and for the young, and to create worldwide networks of communicative narratives in order to grow mature Christians and honest citizens. In the above, it must be remembered that for Salesians, communication means educating and witnessing.
Many topics will be addressed during the programme; here are the main topics of discussion:
- Communicating to grow together and become neighbours.
- Epochal change: digital culture and Artificial Intelligence.
- Educators and communicators in the infosphere.
- Creators of new languages and paradigms for evangelisation.
- Internal and external communication in the Salesian Church and Congregation.
- Ecology, climate change, migrants and refugees.
- Communication of the meeting.
- Salesian Communication Guidelines.
Introducing the Communication 2024 Conference, conceived and strongly supported by the Sector for Social Communication, the General Councillor for Social Communication, Fr Gildasio Mendes, commented: “This is truly a relevant appointment, because it is an important part of the 'dream' that we cultivate for the Communication of the Congregation. Through it we intend to train Delegates from all over the world on the most emerging issues of today's reality, to give life to a Communication Network that is open, integral and effective at the service of the Church, and that which enriches mutually with a reciprocal exchange of experiences and visions.”
Registration is currently still open for Social Communication Delegates and their collaborators who wish to participate. In the coming weeks and months, further insights and communications will be offered that will more richly illustrate the various contents, meanings, speakers and purposes of the event.
